Tank Pump/Sender Unit - Interchangeable?

Set about changing the tank unit and found I have the wrong type, my car (2002 TF 135) has the silver metal screwed collar and the electrical connection going in horizontally . The replacement has the connection vertically, can this be used just by re-wiring or is there a deeper issue?
