ZR on 17's Droneing/rumble noise?
Hi All,
I've got a 2005 ZR 105 on 17" Straights and I've got a droning noise that is coming from the front end when driving. It's covered 79k
It's similar to a wheel bearing noise, and it gets louder as speed increases from 25-70 mph (don't know what happens after that as I've not been any faster in it!)
The noise doesn't seem to change when cornering, but it does get louder when you brake. At its loudest braking from 40-15 mph.
The noise is still there if the car is in gear or in neutral, clutch up or down.
It seemed to get worse when I checked the tire pressures (was at 22psi, now at 30psi)
The car feels perfectly stable on the road and through the corners.
It's recently had both front wheel bearings changed(drivers side done this week), the tires aren't the best brand, but I have put steel wheels with brand new Bridgestones on and the noise is still there. The rear wheel bearings were changed not so long ago.
Jacking it up, all the suspension and steering joints seem fine. There are no knocks or Bangs when driving. No movement in the wheel bearings, brakes are fine, there is no play in the driveshaft, no clicking from the CVs.
The clutch and gearbox are fine. No leaks of any fluids, and it slots in and out of gears smoothly with no crunches, even into reverse.
The wheels have been laser aligned today and they were a fair bit out, but correcting the alignment hasn't changed the noise.
Has anyone else had the same issue and found the cause? I know it is difficult to diagnose a noise over the internet. It's difficult to describe it too!
Thanks in advance!
