MGF Electrical Gremlin
Hi - wonder if anyone has any ideas to get me started..
My baby is a 98 VVC, 68k and in perfect condition and in regular use.
Sunday - battery dead as a dodo, not even enough power to light the immobiliser LED. Recharged battery fully, and car operated as normal.
Monday night - Alarm sounded during night, dashboard alarm continued after horns stopped sounding as if the car was being attempted to be started without the immobiliser being disarmed. Key fobs would not disarm the alarm/immobilser so battery disconnected and recharged (as it showed half charge)
Tuesday morning, reconnected charged battery and situation was the same immediatley - dash alarm sounding and cannot disarm immobiliser / alarm. Dash is lit as if were trying to start car. Battery disconnected.
Tuesday evening - reconnected battery and everything was fine!
later on..replaced car battery and key fob battery hoping it was something to do with these..
later on.. alarm sounds and its as before, disconnected battery.
Wednesday morning, reconnected battery and its the same as before. Dash alarm and lights lit, key fob being ignored. Tried using the EKA - but not successful. Disconnected battery.
Wednesday evening - reconnected battery, and its totally fine again. Car starts and runs perfect, removed key from ignition in puzzlement, but engine keeps running - perfectly! (not spluttering etc). Had to stall the car to stop it.
This is weird, suspecting some sort of solenoid / relay issue and maybe the ignition staying live (maybe explaining the flat battery). Thinking not he immobiliser at fault, as when you remove the key from the ignition there is no excuse for it keeping running!
Anyone got any ideas, this doesn't seem common!!!!
Thanks
