Old chestnut - sticky throttle
Hi,
Sorry to ask about this but am a bit stumped. I might say up front I have searched and read a few threads about this but advice in those hasn't sorted the problem.
Basically, got the car back together after doing the thermostat housing change, and it seems to drive ok, apart from the sticking throttle. The car had this when I first had it, but a good soaking of the throttle body cams seemed to sort it. Now the problem is back after this work. I've taken the TB off again, re-oiled the cam mechanisms etc, including the butterfly joints inside. All seemed very smooth so put it all back together again. But still the problem persists.
From another thread, I took the TPS off and checked the resistance during its rotation, and it all seemed smooth with no breaks, so assume this is functioning correctly.
My symptoms, by the way, after driving, and I declutch, the revs hold at 1500-2000rpm. They return to idle if I blip the throttle though. When slowing down, in gear, there is a point at which the car is driving itself since the revs don't drop any further, until I blip the throttle or declutch and coast. I didn't have this problem before I did the recent work.
Could an air leak somewhere cause the problem?
Or another sensor (or even the TPS)?
Any insights would be appreciated!
Thanks!
