Problem with engine start - weak cranking?

It's Rover 25 1.4 16V, 2003.

When starting engine, it turned on from the first attempt (almost every time, 99.9%), but it "cranking" very bad - I don't know how to explain it on english, but when I turn on key I have feeling that it torture to turn on crankshaft and start engine?! :( What could be a problem?

I tried three different batteries (last one is 54 Ah, 540 CCA, new, FIAM), no improvements. Also replaced starter (anlasser) automat with no luck.

Lately this happens more and more often, with harder and harder starting (very short and hard cranking, without normal power to start engine). I think that I soon could not start the engine at all, things becomes worst (even it still starting from the first attempt)? It's no matter if engine cold or hot, always same behavior!

On diagnostics I only found following code:

P0340 - Camshaft position (CMP) sensor Circuit Malfunction

I don't know if this affects ignition problem (according to this forum - no), but that code appears many months earlier, when mechanic cleaned injectors - I still could not figure what causing this trouble code (when driving everything is fine, no misfire or other troubles).
