hello all fellow enthusiasts

good morning all, i have a rover 75 cdt which would not start, the RAC diagnosed a faulty high pressure mechanical fuel pump, in your experiences is it quite as simple as to change the pump or have any of you found it to be just a sensor needs changing ? any advice welcomed as funds are running low and i need the cheapest option with a good degree of success,
