MGTF window sticking, not going all the way up!

Hiya

A few weeks ago while on the motorway I went to put my drivers side electric window down and it got stuck half way. When I tried to raise it back up again it made an awful noise, kind of a juddering. A friend helped me to pull the window back up into a closed position but it still has around an inch gap between the seal and the top of the window - not great with the rain we've been having!



The window will go down to about half way then stop and make the juddering sound, then go back up to 1 inch off of closed then make the same sound. I've taken the door card off but honestly don't really know what I'm looking for. Any suggestions or solutions? I was hoping to leave the door card off till it's sorted but there's an even bigger gap which makes the alarm go off after a couple of seconds!
