Engine Light Flashing

Noticed a few weeks ago car (rover 45 1.6is 2002) would not start and just juddered and the yellow engine light lit up on the dashboard. I left it a few seconds tried again then it started. Has happened again this morning (after its been raining) and when stopping at traffic lights this afternoon it came on for a few seconds then went off.

Is my car about to die? or could it just be some electrical fault?

I did have the red ABS light sorted by an auto electrician back in March for the MOT but noticed that the odometer does not light up when I have the car lights on. Just guessing and hoping its an electrical connection?
