Goodbye to the trusty Rover?
Thanks guys for one of the best make specific forums. I guess that's inevitable with a popular make that has bitten the dust but the forums for other cars that I've owned (Ford and VW) are nowhere near as lively and informative.
Now for the sad bit - my trusty Rover 25 TDiS is now 14 years old and 187400 miles (107000 done by me). Overall, despite it having a couple of bad moments (TPS wiring!) it has probably been the most reliable car I've had. It's always had a bit of rust around the wheel arches. I applied thumb pressure to the ledge at the inside front of the left rear wheel arch yesterday and it all crumbled away. Same on the sill near the jacking point. Now that's a bit close to the rear suspension beam mounting for my liking so I'll get under at the weekend and have a proper look. MoT is next June - it'll fail for sure. However, if it looks really dangerous to me when I look at the weekend, I fear it'll be curtains and down to the scrappy we go.
I've never had a sill replaced on a car before. Do you think it would be worth doing or should I just accept the inevitable?
Btw the engine and gearbox are still fine.
