Intermittent starting issue

Ok peeps i’m hoping someone will be able to help with this one...



Problem is my wife’s rover 25, its been stood for quite some time so a couple of weeks ago my local council decided to have a local scrap dealer break into car and tow it away for recycling thinking it had been abandoned.....can’t be bothered going into it but to cut a long story short ...



Got the car back, popped in a new (fully charged) battery but the key fob wouldn’t unlock the car so I had to open her manually using the key.



Upon Inserting key into ignition and attempting a start, nothing happened just dash lights illuminated and she let out some kind of whining noise...



Popped to my local Maplin store for a new ‘rip off’ battery for the key fob hoping this would work.



Got back to the car, this time opened door with key fob, inserted key into ignition and hey presto she started...very roughly.



Immediately engine management started flashing (yellow) so switched her off and read the codes.



Turned out to be ‘Cylinder 4 misfire’ – disconnected battery, examined sparks, coil packs and found some crud on one of injectors so cleaned everything up and replaced.



Re-connected battery, inserted key and turned her over, everything was sweet.



Switched her off, went to turn her over again but absolutely naff all, dash lights illuminated but no clicking or anything,



Decided to disconnect the battery again, re-connected it, key in ignition and voila, she was running again but you guessed it, switched her off went to turn her over again and sweet flipping nothing.



What is going on? She only starts after disconnecting the battery and then re-connecting.



My only addition would be that when they broke into the car, they prised the drivers side door open from the top with what seems to be a crowbar or something ...could this be the cause or is there something else at fault here?
