My ZR160 promotes itself to money pit

Back in Feb, (about a month after I bought it), my ZR160 went in for a service ... and came home with a new head gasket. Faaaaarrrrrk that hurt.

She's just gone in again for yet another head gasket. Different mechanic this time, one who seems to know what he's talking about (builds k-series racing motors) although the other mob should have too (they were the dealers here during MG-Rover's time).

Anyways, I got the news this afternoon. Yes, the head gasket had failed again, it had failed because all the liners have dropped. That's nice. Simply pull the motor out, pull it apart, machine the block, put it all back together. Simple job. Oh (says the mechanic), do you want us to do the clutch while we're at it?

The estimated cost is over twice what I have saved. The cost of this repair plus the one in Feb adds up to more than I paid for the bloody thing.

Quite frankly, selling my MGB and buying the ZR has proven to be my worst ever decision. I can only hope that the motor will prove to be solid after this current exercise because this car owes me :cus:
