The sad and undignified end of my old friend
It had all ended up looking so fine. After sorting out sundry things that previous owners had inflicted on it, after sorting my folly in the floods, even after paying at least its value to fix the engine when the cam belt broke (and that's never the car's fault, right?), I was looking forward to a couple of years of relatively reliable enjoyment. Had always wanted a car in BRG, liked diesel (no HGF, been there,) and even found the spoiler rather trendy - even though it does little but add drag.
After the service in August and the long run to Wales, coming home I noticed the coolant was low. I'd never had to top it up once in all the four years. Obviously that's just a bit of a leak, so back to the garage and - bad news! No leak externally, its going in, and there's a problem with a piston, and the bottom of the engine, and there is no way its worth the work and the cash to fix it. These are people I've gone to for years, and trust absolutely.
I still don't understand what's happening in there, but basically I'm under instructions to change the car as soon as possible.
Stupid thing is I'm grieving - for a machine!
