Amazing difference after wheel alignment
Had Bilsteins fitted last year - totally transformed the TF. Had laser alignment done at the same time.
A few weeks ago I felt that there was something wrong. Hitting small bumps on corners made the back of the car jump sideways. The steering felt loose and vibrated over bumps. It felt horrible.
Tyre pressures were fine (28 - 36). Goodyears were fine, lots of tread with quite even wear.
What could it be all of a sudden. Bushes ?, Broken Bilstein (hope not !), ball joints ? maybe subframe mounts ? everything was great and solid at the last MOT in May.
I took the car in to Summit MG in Maidenhead who fitted my Bilsteins last year. Jimmy test drove it and said something was wrong. Probably just alignment - I said it was done last year. He gave the car a good inspection and said it was one of the best and tightest he had seen for a while. Nothing broken or worn much. Summit have a new in house laser alignment rig.
Turns out that's all it was. Fronts were -1.2 and 1.7 (should be within +/- 0.3) and rears were 2.9 ( 1.8 max) and -0.3 (1.2 min).
All in the red - I cant remember hitting any pot holes hard. Just the state of our roads then !
After the alignment the car is brilliant again. Jimmy said that Alignment is absolutely critical on TFs - I absolutely agree.
