Tyres yet again
Took my ‘F’ Trophy in for MOT yesterday to National Tyres, but it failed on one of the rear tyres having a small blister on the inside wall (he did show me the offending blister). I explained to the guy that there were only the Toyo TR-1 & Falken tyres ‘approved’ for these cars because of the side wall strength (I think that is correct). However, he insisted that any tyre with the correct side wall rating, i.e. 86 XL (extra load), should be ok. He said the Goodyear F1 GD-S3’s had the same rating as the GD-S2’s so even those should be ok. He showed me the PC screen with about eight type of tyres with the correct side wall rating. My questions are:-
1. If all these tyres have the correct spec for the car why is only the Toyo & Falken specified as ok.
2. Who specified these two makes as being the only tyres that should be used.
I have however ordered two Toyo Proxes T1-R but I am just curious because of what the guy said.
