1.6 K extremely rough - fuel leak?

Hi all,

I've had this intermittent trouble with my 25 1.6. Sometimes, it will start and be very lumpy, to the point where it will shake and stall. If you ignore it for a few hours, it tends to be fine. It has gone for months with no issue, but over the last month or two, it's happened a few times. I did have a minor water leak, but replacing the IMG has solved that.

Today, I started the car, and it was rough immediately. Stalled on the drive, and sounded awful. I looked under the bonnet and noticed oil-type smoke near the exhaust manifold heat shield, and some sort of liquid running down onto the floor. It was clear, and I think it's fuel (by smell!).

Could an intermittent fuel leak explain the rough running? And occasional stutters?

Now I've seen fuel leaking out, I don't want my wife to drive to work tomorrow morning. Surely it would be dangerous? But it is a good idea for me to drive it to the garage?

Not sure I fancy messing with it, but any tips on what are the likely culprits would be most useful. Any seals which fail? Pipes? Fuel filter? Could a dodgy injector cause this? Any gaskets?

My other worry is that tomorrow morning, it will start fine, so my missus will want to drive to work, but also the garage wouldn't see the issue.

Help!

Cheers,

Richard.
