Engine tuning ....... pipe dreams? 97 Mpi

Due to acquiring a spare MGF Mpi cylinder head this has gotten me thinking about improving the performance of my Mpi .................................................. I know thinking is bad!

Firstly let me outline the "vauge" (at this stage) aims:-

The bring the Mpi up power wise closer to that on my VVC so switching between them there is not such a marked difference.

This is what has already been done to the Mpi "Blue 33"

TF135 Aif Box and filter fitted.

Inlet feed moved to the front of the box and rear feed blanked off. Original intake hose now routed to N/S intake vent.

New std 135 air flitler element fitted.

Aftermarket Mild steel back box fitted. It's a GTX one unknown make to me but it seems to flow better than the original?

Braided brake hoses front and rear.

Pagid pads in rear calipers (just bedded in)

K&H splitter fitted to front.

New plugs and leads.

Next to do are:-

New rotor cap and arm (don't know how old they are)

Better pads, or brake upgrade for the front (might have a chance at a set of AP's) depends on price of course.

Servo brace/bracket.

Replace the polymer throttle body with alloy one. De-wedged 48 or preferably a 52mm one.

So thoughts are:-

135 cams (yes will need the distributer drive bit) Perhaps a 135 head complete? Seems cheaper to buy a head than just the cams!

Better manifold. Possibly a cleaned up later 6 stud with down pipe also so treated. A 4/2/1 is beyond the budget right now.

Head would really or ideally be ported but cost??? Perhaps save and get Mike Satur:-

Quote:

Stage 1 head fast road. MS140

The standard head has fairly restrictive port and throat sizes but with careful reworking the ports can be transformed to give acceptable airflow retaining the standard valve sizes (inlet valve size 27.5mm and exhaust is 24mm). For the driver requiring a good boost in torque and BHP for a reasonable price this has got to be good value for money. When used with a recommended air induction kit 135-140 BHP have been achieved from the 1.8i engine £450.00+ VAT

Another option of course would be to buy a 135 engine and swap that into "Blue 33" ..... after all they are supposed to give 135BHP and one can pick a complete engine up for a lot less than the Satur clubmans tune and it seems yeild abotut eh same performance???.

What I am trying to do here is map out a route to follow that can worked through stage by stage due to finance constraints. So the question really is am I mad and have totally lost the plot?

Or is this a reasonable idea and approach?
