Having a chat this afternoon to a garage owner about the new car Tax website.



Up shot is.



"cars can be cloned easily" in his words.



The conversation went on to the fact you can type any reg number into the .GOV vehicle enquiry site and see if the car is taxed and tested.



SO.....



His theory is.

You have a common car and spot a similar one in a car park (same colour/make)

Go home and do a check to see if tax and test is valid.

If the results look good then you get a set of plates made up put them on your motor and use the cloned car.



Police ANPR will show the legit car with tax/test and insurance.

When infact the car you are driving has non of the above.



Yes I know we have to jump through hoops to get a legit number plate.

BUT he was talking about the less than legal type of person who would be able to get them made up.



In theory it is very possible.

AND made easier by the new system the DVLA are using.
