TF Suspension Woes
Hi All,
I don't seem to have much luck with the TF's suspension set up. Let me explain.
I bought my "Spice" TF 160 last September. Being a 2003MY car it had the hard as nails suspension set up common to all pre 2005 MY cars. One of the first things I did was to replace all the spring and damper units with new parts from the Le500. The dampers and springs came as as single unit, part numbers RNB001210 for the fronts and RPD000730 for the rears. Given that I already own a 2005MY car with the softer suspension which soaks up the bumps and lumps like a dream, this would seem to be a straightforward fix. Not so.
The ride on the front is still pretty dreadful. The units I ordered were brand new from XPart and unlikely to be faulty. The only other change I made was to switch to poly bushes. Also the lower wishbones were replaced since these were starting to corrode.
Could it be that the polybushes are simply too hard? Every imperfection on the road is transmitted through into the cabin. The thing bangs, crashes and jars over all but the smoothest roads. I took the car to my local service centre who greased the upper arms but this has made no real difference. They could find nothing else particularly wrong.
Any thoughts or comments would be gratefully received - at this stage, I'm thinking of switching back to the standard rubber bushes.
As a side point, when I had my Bacchus TF, I switched to Bilsteins all round, with the softer 2005 springs. The car still rode like it was on bricks (my uncle owns it now and state that the ride just isn't much fun on long journeys).
Knowing how good the ride can be from my MY2005 car, what am I missing here? Short of changing the bushes, dampers and springs, there isn't much more to change?
Thanks,
James
