Theoretical limit of L series power
I've always wondered this, what would be the theoretical limit to a standard L series engine block + head?
Assuming you had enough fuel and air and ignoring reliability, it seems the obvious pinch point is in the head.
A while back someone (I think it was Dastardly Dan?) posted pics of an L series head which had been cut up, showing pics of the ports, would there be a way of calculating the limit of how much air the head could flow? (Considering it's only an 8 valve head with swirl ports)
This is purely out of interest but only a couple of years ago people thought 150bhp was the limit and that the gearbox and engine would disintegrate if you went any higher, but now a fair few people are running reliably at 175-200bhp, so give it another year or two...
