Clutch pedal advice please

Hi all,



A funny thing happened on the way to work today....



The clutch pedal suddenly had a LOT of play. IE from the top position pushing down I was just 'taking up slack' until about halfway then I could feel the clutch operating. I could still change gear and the car drove well but the clutch would slip at full torque loading. However a couple of good pumps of the pedal seemed to resolve this and the free-play returned to normal with the clutch fully operational with no slip.



Is this a common issue? It feels like either the master or slave cylinder are sticking.
