Is this the end?

Hi guys, last night I was out burning about in my zr and decided to give it death along the dual carriageway and before I knew it the engine temperature was almost at the red so I pulled over and let it cool down, I don't have a heat shield over the manifold and the top pipe from the radiator was very hot so I thought that may be the cause of it, then after 5 minutes of running it again it goes back up even when I'm doing around 20-30mph with the revs at 1500-2000rpm, also a dodgy sound like air under pressure is escaping... Just need to know if its a simple fix, if it is the head gasket I'm gonna blow it up and fit a 1.8 in it so doesn't really bother me how long it will last!
