MG ZT Mud Flaps.

This time of year always sees mud and filth thrown up by the wheels adhering to the sides of the car. Sometimes chips from stones appear too. All my cars have mudflaps so this ZT will have them too. The ZT appears to gather more filth on its wings and doors than other cars.

Removing the badly corroded original self-tapping screws which secure the little L-Shaped rubber trim in the lower front wheel arch was a real pain. Needed to be persuaded with an angle grinder as all six defied my best efforts with screwdrivers, mole grips and even a chisel with copious applications of penetrating fluid. I decided to use the superior quality self-tappers used on Rover 600s which I've never known to become corroded. Dirty yes, but never badly corroded and impossible to remove intact as with later Rovers and MGs.

These 600 self-tappers are made of superior metal to the ones on the ZT and as these screws are all used and at least sixteen years old, despite that they cleaned up almost good as new. So fitted the four mudflaps and used some Copper Based Grease in the metal fixings so should I need to remove these screws sometime, it will be easy without any corrosion issues.

Fitting the rear Flaps was a doddle as I drilled four holes in the rear bumper after offering up the rear mudflaps in position as a guide. No corrosion issues ever in the plastic locations. Two images show the better quality 600 self-tappers used to secure the front flaps.
