My new MG ZR TD

Hi everyone. I liked my rover streetwise td's engine so decided to buy an MG ZR as one was for sale locally and had just 68,000 on the clock and is standard. A week after buying it, however, I have had the following problems:



1. The car takes an age to start on cold mornings and this morning I made the battery go flat by trying so many times. I have had the glow plugs tested and they are fine and the car drives and starts fine after it eventually starts.



2. My mpg isn't as good as my streetwise and is around 40mpg. It has been serviced recently. I have also pumped the tyres up nicely. Are there any other common reasons for this?
