Oil filters

Kind of curious, I have a new oil filter left over from a 4 litre Jeep that I once had. Going on the basis that an oil filter designed to clean the oil on a lump of American pig iron should be pretty capable, then why wouldn't it be ok for my F or any other motor with the same thread.
