Water pump gasket sealant

I want to change my timing belt tomorrow - I'll be changing the water pump while I'm at it but I wasn't sure what sealant to use for the pump gasket. Haines manual doesn't mention using a sealant - does that mean it is not necessary? But most other sources (i.e. youtube tutorials) suggest using it.

If it does need sealant - what type should I use? Will a simple high temp silicone one get damaged by the coolant (Halfords OAT coolant / antifreeze)?
