What a ripoff!

Over here in Spain I have a friend with a Kia Carens. Last week he drove into the local town and parked up. Going back to the car it would start but no throttle response at all.

Seeing as he was only 50 metres from a garage they came and pushed it into their workshop. Pluggin in the diagnostics it showed no problem at all, yet still wouldn't rev. He left if with them to sort out.

Three days later with no phone call he went back in- to find his car with the entire engine sat on the floor in front of it in bits! The mechanics could find no problem so were going through it bit by bit. Now this is where I would have freaked out, because at the end of the day you just know it has to be a sensor or the ecu- not mechanical inside the engine.

They assured him they knew what they were doing and to call back in two more days. Well the next day he gets a text message from his insurance company, the breakdown truck would be there to pick up his car in 30 minutes. Here in Spain you cannot tow a car, it has to be done by breakdown truck and as such is covered by your insurance policy.

He went to the garage to see his car being loaded on to the back of the truck, it was on its way to the main dealer 30 miles away, the garage had given up. They had got his policy from the glove box and called them for a recovery truck without asking him! so there goes the no claims bonus as well.

Today he's had a phone call, all is now fixed but they wouldn't tell him what it was and the kick in the teeth? Its 8 years old so the Kia warranty won't cover it and he now has a bill for 1700€
