Fuel Tank capacity... How much do you squeeze in?

Okay... My Question...



So the MG TF has a capacity of 50 litres?

(bare with me, i'm still new to these TF's)



I had 345 miles on the clock, the gauge was reading about 1/8th of a tank, so just above the red area.



I'm told that you have 5 litres remaining when you get the red light... (My fuel light wasn't on)



When i filled up, i managed to squeeze 47.4 litres of petrol in the tank, and that brought the fuel level to the point i could see it in the filler neck...



So in theory i only had 2.6 litres of fuel left??



So my question...



1) Is the filler neck quite large, thus i just overfilled the tank a fair bit?

2) Is it likely my fuel light is faulty?

3) How much can you squeeze into your tank?
