Hids cause engine to run hotter?

I have paranoia over hgf. I know it's probably not and there's millions of threads out there on hgf, but resently I fitted hid dipped bulbs, and I started to notice the fan as the engine turned off. But now I've had a look at the temp gauge it's getting up to like the 3/4 line every so often but the fan kicks in and cools it down to half. Coukd hids cause it to over heat? This may not work properly as it's my first time on the mobile site.
