Crack in alloy rim

Trying to find the cause of a low level vibration at about 40mph, I had my wheels balanced today - not that I thought that was the problem - just a good way to eliminate that possibility. Anyway, the rear offside alloy has a 1/2" radial crack on the rim, on the inside, so it was discovered.



"We see this a lot on BMWs" the man said.



I read that this kind of damage can be welded. Anyone had this done, or any thoughts on whether just getting a new alloy might be better? It has taken the odd scrape on the inside rim as well...
