Installing front speakers, have i done it right?
Hey all!
So my postman brought me a lovely box full of JBL speakers for the front of the ZS today, and like anyone eager to upgrade something i attacked it streight away
The good new is, the speaker spacers i bought where a perfect fit, and as such the speaker does not foul the window or the door card, another bit of good luck is that with very minor modifications i managed to get the tweeters to fit into the existing trim, plus solder on the connectors so they all plug into the existing door plugs
However! i was expecting upon removal of the front speakers and tweeters, all wires to be a nice red for positive, and black for negative..... i was wrong, the tweeters have black, and black with a white stripe? and the left door speaker had blue wires and green wires, wheras the passenger door has brown wires and red wires?!!?
Between 3 of us we decided that the Black wire on the tweeters was positive, however i just completely guessed with the door speakers, trying them both ways around seemed to make no difference, so in the end i stuck with the blue wires as positive on the drivers side, and red wires as positive on the passengers side, is this correct?
All seems to work well, although the tweeters do seem to be alot louder than the woofers, as such i have had to crank the bass right up which causes my rear speakers to have a heart attack (worth noting the rears are still standard rover ones)
Also worth noting is the box came with 2 little boxes which i beleive are called crossovers? as the standard system didnt have them i assumed i didnt need them, am i to assume these are only for use with big amplified systems? my current system is only running off the head unit amplifier
Many thanks all
Roo
