Rover owners: Gear surround popping off and temp sensor

Have never tried this on another TF but when you change into third does this occasionally dislodge the gear surround at the base?

Previous owners have replaced the interior including the gear surround and centre console. Is this something you just put up with as a quirk of driving an my or should this be a snugger fit?

Does anyone know what type of clip holds the coolant temp sensor "lower of the coolant sensors "for the dash mounted gauge? Have been using a obd adapter with my phone in the meantime but can see the sensor appears to be missing a clip and wriggles loose eventually. Will try and get a photos uploaded.
