Hardtop fitting

I have an MGF roof for my MGTF car. My question is, should the front edge of the hardtop fit flush with the car (follow curve of windscreen), or should there be a small "step" there. Its almost like the front edge sits a bit too high? Does anyone have any pictures of this edge on their car to show me, and is there any way which you know of to adjust this so you get a smooth curve which follows the line of the windscreen. Hope this makes sense.
