MG Zr 160 MK2 Losing water slowly
Ok so i brought my Zr 160 at the beginning of October last year and so far all is ok. Apart from a few problems with the tailgate loom and a slight leak the engine side of things have been fine. Car came with new water pump, tensioner and cam belt fitted and had a full service.
There wasn't much history with the car although i can see it had regular servicing up to about 40k and it's currently on 65k. I'm unsure on whether the head gasket has gone before and if it's been done but when i brought the car the water level with regular anti freeze was spot on max. I noticed this hadn't gone down really at all but i check it quite regularly. When i checked the car yesterday the level was on minimum and it's not a major amount to lose although i haven't seen loads of smoke on start up and it starts fine on cold mornings.
Before i start getting worried I have topped up the reservoir back to maximum and ill see how it goes but as a general rule will the coolant always stay on max or will the car use a tiny bit so often as im thinking 4 months worth of driving it really hasn't lost that much fluid. No mayo or any signs of cross contamination as i had on a previous Rover with HG failure but needed some advice on whether this is expected before i drop it in to my local garage friend to have a look. Checking on the forums it seems the Inlet Manifold Gasket can cause these sort of leaks but i have no idea on how to check this so it might be easier to get the garage to take a look instead.
Cheers,
