My MGF wont start

hi all, i have recently bought an mgf 2000 W reg 1.8i, it came with a head gasket failure, so i have had the engine apart and fitted a new gasket set, original type. i then had to buy a new battery as the starter wouldnt engage it just clicked rapidly, now the new battery is on it turns the engine over but it wont start, i have taken each spark plug out and they all have a spark, the fuel pump seems to work when i turn the key i can hear it engage for a few seconds, not sure what it could be now? would the injectors be blocked? the old watery oil mix was inside the intake manifold and exhaust manifold when i stripped the engine so i had to clean it out, or could it be something else?
