Rusty Sills
So I got an advisory on the MOT in October saying the drivers side sill at the rear would need attention before next MOT, and to be fair the garage (who don't touch welding) said get it done before the salt goes down. Someone has completely a**ed up the body in the past by jacking it up a couple of inches down from the jacking point and it seems to have deteriorated from there.
Anyways, after completely ignoring them and now finding brown puddles of water on my drive immediately under the sill, I poked around with a key this weekend to see it go straight through.
Happen to work next to a body shop so dropped in for a quote. I haven't needed welding done before so don't have a trusted garage I know of, and it would be very convenient to drop it in there whilst at work. However i'm not sure the MG fit with the Audi's / VW's / Seat's etc they specialise in, but he said he had an independent guy who happened to be on site who was a very good welder.
So he had a look - said £60 (could go up a little if its worse than it looks) to cut out the bad and weld in the good. I was quite surprised it was so cheap. Was expecting more. Cost is always an issue, so decided i'll take him up on that and it's going into his workshop near Bury on Saturday. It's out of sight so as long as the integrity is maintained, i'm ok if it's not a perfect job cosmetically.
Thats not including spraying, which i'll cover with the rattle can. Is it a too good to be true price or about right for welding only? It's my first time getting a car welded.
I was going to go to Entune 2000 too for a quote thinking this body shop would be pricey, but happy with this quote.
