Symptoms of V8 overheating in traffic
As with all V8 engines they don't like sitting in nose to tail traffic for long periods. I have found since I bought my car 3 years ago that this is the case with my ZT. It shudders and shakes like crazy but at the same time doesn't appear to be overheating per the gauge nor does the engine cut out. However, the throttle does become a lot more "blippy" when you press it and it is really hard to get rid of the horrible feeling of shaking and shuddering even with a subsequent long run to cool things off. It even burnt through its heat shield that protects the bulkhead but I thought that might actually improve airflow. It hasn't had any impact but the latest episode of shuddering and shaking went on for so long due to a traffic jam that it has now led to the engine management light coming on.
My mechanic has asked me to find out from this forum whether anyone else has found this problem and knows of a way to deal with it. Such as a fan upgrade or other such mechanism, or perhaps it isn't a cooling problem but something else. It only ever happens when the car has really warmed up then has to stop to be in a jam for long periods. It doesn't happen during any other kind of use. Many thanks in advance if you can assist!!
