Cambelt change issues.
Hi folks..
So after a freeze we had the other day my water pump on my MGF had stopped working without me knowing.. so pop goes a pipe and a car recovery was in order even thoe i was only approx half a mile from home.
So come to repair the car, I ordered a new belt, water pump and Manual tensioner..
So stripped all down, crank timed upto the safe mark(1 o clock pos) , cams timed up, everything bolted back up, etc etc
go to start the car and bam its only firing on cycliners 1 & 4. I pull plugs off 2 &3 and no engine change at all. infact its running like its got a anti lag system on it. revs fine, takes a good 5 or 6 cranks to start it, Idles at 1k rpm.
Ive also took off one of the cam pulleys to make sure that i got the cams in the correct position to make sure they were timed up right, and they were.
I also started the car before i carried out the work to make sure it started fine, which it did.
So i can only assume that ive either got the timing wrong still and bent a few valves or the timings still wrong ( 4th attempt of timing it up ). turned the engine over by hand for a good min before starting it and it was all freely spinning on every attempt of getting it retimed!
Spark is there on all 4 plugs. Apart from not having done a compression test yet then im at a loss..
Is there anything else someone can suggest i can try other than ripping the head off.
Cheers.
