Code reader 2003 mg zr diesel

I have had a fault come up on my van it's gone into limp home mode and the engine lights on.

Can anyone recommend a reader for this vehicle that can also do a zt 2004 diesel

I have a cheap reader that used to use on an Astra van I had but does not seem to communicate with the ecu I ve had it for about 6 years so might have gone faulty
