Reckless disclosure of number plates on facebook

I am getting increasingly concerned and frustrated with some of the facebook car owners pages blatantly disclosing number plate details with total disregard to owners data protection.

This forum has always tried it's best to moderate plates being posted online, and requests only the last three digits to be displayed.

Woefully for some of us MGR owners our cars are worth fairly little, but I believe that does not give people the right to go out shooting pictures of random cars with plates clearly displayed then posting them on facebook which will make them fully public. Even if the page is a closed group some have members of over 5,000 people. My MK2 ZS required a replacement front bumper last year, it took me three weeks to find one as spares are getting rare now, surly that makes a low-budget car somewhat a target now?

I am a member of two which I choose not to name at this stage, the moderator was contacted by me a few months back stating my concerns, he agreed I had a valued point and would address this, I am still waiting.

Anyone got views on this?
