Symptoms of temp sender failiure

So, todays question, what are the symptoms of the water and or the ecu temperature sensor failing, if any?



Regarding my ongoing idling issue, it was taken to a garage yesterday, who were, like me, pretty much clueless as to what is actually wrong with my 120. They suspected the stepper motor, but a known good one was fitted, which made no difference, as was a throttle potentiometer, again, to no effect.



The conclusion is that now it's an electrical failure in the making, but I'm still not convinced. I know there are two sensors which are on the top of the block, where the top radiator hose fits into, I wondered if either of these would cause my issues. The garage said they'll keep the car and investigate it if I wish, but will charge me an hourly rate for the privilege.



Any clues anyone?
