ZT-T cdti: unwanted engine noise

Hi All,

Wonder if anyone can shed any light/experience on this:

Last summer I had to have the anti-vibe' crank pulley replaced on the cdti (auto) as it was making a heck of a row. Part fitted was a non-original. While the worst of the noise went, after the work, she didn't sound like she did prior to the pulley failing - she had sounded very sweet and quiet.

At the time, the guy who did the work (not an MG specialist, but a guy with a lot of years behind him) said not to worry about it as it's almost impossible to quieten them down.

I then took the car to an ex Rover/MG dealer in Lincoln and has all the auxiliary belt pulleys changed. Other than making me poorer, it made no difference to the noise.

It's now getting on my nerves and I'd like her back 'how she was', but don't want to keep throwing money at her without having a better idea of what to look for. Personally, I think it sounds like the replacement crank pulley is making the noise, someone else has suggested power steering pump (not having any issues with it at moment). The only other thing I can say is, when I stop the engine, there's a slight rattle, similar to an exhaust mount being loose (or a crank pulley flopping about).

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

cheers,

Rick
