Engine management light/code reader

The engine management light just popped on in my 2004 Rover 45 iXL 1.8 although fortunately the car is driving normally and drove 10 miles with no noticeable problems.



I know I need to get the code to try and determine what the problem is and as it may be useful to have one is there a code reader available that will do the job at a reasonable price say £50 or under?



Does anyone have any recommendations?



Once I have the code how do I translate that in to an actual fault?



Is there a website anywhere that lists them all?
