Front Lower Wishbones fitted... not too bad.

Hi all, I had read lots of horror stories regarding the above and decided to try and lubricate all of the various nuts and bolts to death. I used a full tin of plusgas and left it 24 hours with occasional re-applications. It worked a treat and every nut and bolt came free easily - no drama and no problems.

The job went pretty much as described in the "how to" but just a couple of things...

The bottom ball joint (on the wishbone) was a bit of a swine to remove - the bolt was very tight to undo and had to be drifted out and then a jack was used underneath to raise the wishbone and the balljoint was levered down and off. A ball joint separator is really needed.

I did not touch any of the bolts holding the front of the subframe - just the rear ones and the antiroll bar. The subframe came down easily with a gentle bit of persuasion so that the rear long bolts could be removed.

All of the brakes and discs were left as is. No need to remove them.

The bolts that hold the antiroll bar at the wheel end were very tight and corroded - use LOTS of release agent!

Fitting the new wishbones was easy but lining up the holes for the bolts was a bit of a faff... just wiggled the wishbone about until the bolts slid in.

Raising the subframe back into position requires 2 trolley jacks to make it easy - however be careful to ensure the top of the suspension does not foul the bodywork under the bonnet - mine did and I had to alter the angle of the jack to get enough clearance for it to locate properly.

The bottom ball joint has a groove to allow the bolt to pass through - note that the joint does not go fully into its housing - if you push it all the way in the bolt will not slide through!

Undo the steering bolt inside the car (next to the clutch pedal - the shaft just pushes up out of the way).

Other than that, make sure you have 6 sided sockets, 2 trolley jacks, a pry bar (or joint splitter) and LOADS of Plusgas or similar!!!

I took some pics but the phone camera is so bad they are useless - sorry.
