mystery plug engine bay

Removed the airbox today (trying to find the rubber cover for the bonnet switch!which went in their somwhere !!) and found a 3 pin plug near the throttle body which dosn't seem to plug into anything.

Looks like the cam sensor type plug ? Anyone know what its is / was for ?

Has a BMW number on it.
