Hardtop fitting and adjustment

Got my MGF Trophy 160 out of winter storage at the weekend, drove it home and remembered how the hardtop makes so much noise!

From researching the forum the problem appears common to many, mine suffers from creaking, groaning and squeaking when driven and the nearside window catches on the hardtop upon opening and closing the passenger door.

I am happy with the adjustment at the front where the hardtop clamps tightly to the screen frame, no draught or leaks!

The rear is a different matter. With the rear hood catches adjusted to their maximum pull the hardtop still does not appear to be a tight fit down on to the body. Plus the hardtop is obviously sitting slightly too low at the nearside, evidenced by the window catching upon opening door.

Am I correct in thinking that the hardtop seating is non adjustable and determined by the condition of the B post and Cantrail spacers (pictured at nos 16 & 18 here)

Also I am sure I have read of improvements by fitting later hood catches DXW100200PMA (no 8 in above parts diagram) but can anyone explain why these catches are better than my own (presumably) earlier type, maybe I can fabricate an improvement to my own?
