MG ZS Lacking power under 4.5k (ZS 180)
Hi all,
Im new to the forum and to MG, having just bought my first MG ZS 180 on the weekend :) Im really happy with many aspects of the car, but one thing that i just cannot get used to is a distinct lack of power under 4.5k.
I've been doing some searching on the forums regarding something called VIS motors and inlet manifolds, but cannot fathom how if the VIS or manifold have failed, that i still get decent power at 4.5k upwards.
I'm told that there should be a surge at 3k which there isnt - can anyone tell me if this surge is accompanied by a supercharger-like whine?
The car does start to pull moderately harder (with the whine) at 3.5k but the engine feels lazy and it feels like it takes ages to reach the point where im making swift progress.
I'm told that the previous owner was in her 50's so i suppose its fairly probable that she didnt open it up very often, if at all.
I have found that since owning it and driving it hard for a few days that the engine does seem to be getting more eager, but im still feeling that decided lack of pull low end and its preventing me from falling in love with the car, which is otherwise brilliant for the price i paid for it.
Does anyone else here have experience of these things?
I've come from driving a diesel so i realise that doesnt help, but ive also had access to a straight 6 BMW Z3 and that felt very satisfying from low revs as it pulled through the rev range.
Please can anyone advise? I will do my best to answer your questions.
Best Regards,
Mark180
