Piston Seal

Morning,



I have been recommended that my piston seal has gone on my car by probably one of the most reputable mechanics for these money pits.



Question. Is replacing the seal on a piston the same work (As in raising subframes/choking the timing) as replacing the head gasket. I want to try and save some money as this is another £375. losing about 1/2 cm coolant a day sometimes none, I drive this thing daily so don't want to make matters worse. He replaced pipes and header tank that was split! and the coolant system is holding pressure now. He didn't remove the head as the actual head gasket wasn't at fault. Which is fairdos.
