Fuel problem ? Not starting TF

Have had an 04 plate TF for 3 years, it has run nearly faultlessly, last week it passed the 80k miles.

On Thursday I parked up at work , and on leaving, it turned over, but wouldn't fire.
Yes theres nearly 3/4 tank of fuel, its unleaded (checked the last receipt!!) - Called out green flag. They checked the cut off, that's OK. They unbolted (two bolts approx. 1.5" long) something at the top of the cylinder head cover (electrical ?) - gave it some WD40, replaced it, and it fired up OK. Ran fine for a couple of minutes.. Switched off, restarted , then it died again. Had to get it recovered back home. It was running fine before this happened.

The mechanic suggested it may be fuel pump, but wasn't sure.

I've had a look at the pump replacement routine, - too much for me, but it seems there may be lots of other causes. - Relay, switches etc. One other thing is that my key fob has now worn away on the unlock bit so I can see inside the fob.

Its got to the point where it needs a new rag top / screen and having just spent £450 to get through an MOT (Exhaust / welding / front subframe mountings / rear brake calipers & pads) Im beginning to think its had its day.

Does anyone have any suggestions ? Not mechanically minded so if anyone can recommend anyone mobile in Bolton Id be grateful .
