MG TF 135 Valve Guide Replacement

MG TF 135 Valve Guide Replacement

Dear Forum Members,

I am having the cylinder head on my wife's MG TF 135 2004 rebuilt after a timing belt failure. The failure was caused by the accessory belt coming apart when going over some road works and a fragment (I assume) getting inside the timing belt chamber and causing a jump of a few teeth.

Anyway, I have ordered new valve guides as all 8 on the inlet side were cracked.

The first replacements (LGJ10034L) were measured against the originals and are about 2 thousands of an inch larger on the outer diameter than the removed originals. Consulting with Rimmer Brothers, it seems I should have ordered different (later) valve guides (LGJ10033L) as the engine was later (after 14k4f). So ordered those, hoping they would be the same outside diameter as the removed originals and when they arrived they were even bigger on the outside diameter!

So am I missing something here? Does the cylinder head need to be drilled out to accommodate the larger replacement valve guides? I know that the valve guides need to be deep cooled to fit (and the head not heated / kept at ambient) but the size comparison was done at ambient / equal temperature.

Any advice gratefully received therefore.

I have added an image of 3 valves guides showing; 1) a removed original 2) the first replacement LGJ10034L and 3) the second (correct?) replacement LGJ10034L. You might even be able to see the gain in outer diameter as you view left to right.

Best regards,

Daniel
