Headlights fail MOT ...

they only do low beam test, it is beam pattern , not out of alignment , so yes the lens dis-coloring will effect the pattern , if you do a quick search on headlight lens cleaning should give u a few tips and pointers.

the tester will usually re-align headlights for free during the test (mine always has at 3 different garages ), the only time it will usually fail on alignment is if the adjuster has popped out as the mot guy isnt allowed to take things apart and fix them . or if the headlight bulbs have been fitted incorrectly (wrong way round , lugs not inserted correctly etc )
